Day 1 - The Beginning
I woke up early today, ready to start my 21 Pounds in 21 Days diet program. I have been trying to lose 30 pounds for a couple of years to no avail – extremely frustrated. I put on 10 pounds when I hit menopause and then the next 20 just seemed to come on so easily and quickly. Exercise seems to be getting harder and harder for me to get around to doing and finding the energy was almost impossible.
I happened to turn in to Larry King one evening and Dr. Roni DeLuz was telling him about her new detox diet plan. I only saw the last 10 minutes of the show, but I thought hey, this is something I haven’t thought about and really didn’t know anything about detoxing at all. So, the next day I ordered the book from Amazon and all I can say is that it’s a bit fuzzy about details. I bet I read it over and over (parts of it anyway) just trying to figure what the heck she was going on about. It is definitely not clear and precise, so I’ve decided to do my best to help others who would like to try the diet. I have to admit I have failed at all other diets, so I’m a bit apprehensive about this one, but my son says if I put it on the internet it will help me keep on track, so maybe just maybe I will make it this time. So here goes, hope there are others who want to take this journey with me.
I went to GNC and Healthway because neither of them had all the items needed for this diet. I looked at Ebay and as far as I could tell the Detox kit had more items than the book states we need, so why pay for all the extra items. I did take the book in so that the health stores could see what she was requesting for this diet to work. I tried ordering some of the items online and after a week of not receiving anything found out they were sold out of most of the items and it would be another two weeks before they even received their next shipment. I could see this is going to be a big fad diet and I wanted to get in on the basement floor and hopefully make it to the top with a lot less weight on my body when I finish detoxing.
Here are the items I ended up purchasing, the people at Healthway were fantastic and helped get everything together for me. The schedule is on page 174 of the book and it will tell you when to take each item, that part is pretty clear.
Aloe Vera – please do yourself a favor and get the pill form (liquid is to gag for)
- Take 1 at the end of the day
Berry Green powder (mixture of greens and fruit, any brand is fine)
- Drink 2 a day (3 if you don’t make your own juice at lunch time, I mix with apple juice)
Berry Splash powder (mixture of fruit and tea, any brand is fine)
- Drink 2 a day
Enzymes (these are pills)
- 1 pill, 2 times a day
Inner Cleanse (these are pills)
- 3 pills, 3 times a day
Protein Drink powder
- Not until the 22nd day (starts after detox is over)
Decaf tea
Apple Juice (I mix my Green Powder into the apple juice, the Healthway employee told me it’s a great way to drink it and he’s right, it goes down much easier this way)
I also found this item to be especially necessary for me:
Brita Water Pitcher – you can get one for about $13.00
You can purchase this at Target or online at Amazon.
Having the Brita Water Pitcher kept the water nice and cold which I found essential when mixing the powder drinks and I decided I wasn’t going to drink distilled water. I didn’t feel like spending money for those bottles and having to lug them from the grocery store, besides my filtered water is delicious and I believe it should be just fine. Guess I’ll find out soon anyway.
Day 1 has turned out to be a very good day. I started with the berry drink and I actually liked it, it’s sweet and I think it taste like kool aid, but it does need to be very cold water and be mixed thoroughly. I went for my 1 mile walk, which is the first time I have done any exercise in just forever; I can’t even remember the last time I walked. It actually felt good to be motivated to walk knowing it was part of my diet plan. Just 1 mile, it doesn’t take but 20 to 30 minutes at a slow walk and actually I came back feeling a bit rejuvenated – guess it has been way too long since my last pass at exercising, oh well.
When it came time to drink the green drink (yuck) I added some apple juice to it and it actually improved the flavor drastically. So will probably stick to that plan for the diet, even though it will add a few more calories at least I’m able to get the drink down now without any problems.
I put broccoli, green beans, carrots, a few basil leaves in my crock pot and let them cook all day on low. This is one of the recipes out of her book. I micro waved the cauliflower and it all came together pretty pleasantly.
Okay, this is just terrible – aloe vera, do not get the liquid it is totally disgusting. I think it must have the same consistency as castor oil, absolutely do not drink this horrible, disgusting stuff. Aloe Vera comes in tablets – get those! Tomorrow I am going back to the health store and purchase the tablets – yuck and double yuck, oh yea, it’s slimy too!!!
I actually am very surprised because I truly have not been hungry at all today, except an episode in the morning. When I first get up I’m always starving. So I drank a glass of water and had a cup of tea and it seemed to help a lot. So I may have to end up drinking lots of tea if I start getting hungry. I have never been a tea drinker so this will be interesting. I love diet cokes and I will try my best not to have any while detoxing – we’ll see if I can actually make that quest, not sure about this one.
I have scheduled a colon hydrotherapy 3 days from now and can tell you truthfully it just sounds terrible. I am not looking forward to it at all and I’m big time shy, so this will push my buttons to the limit that’s for sure. I will let you know how it goes after I get home that afternoon. What goes through my mind is just who would pick that occupation as a career choice????
I haven’t had any problems with headaches or anything today, so I would consider this a very good day and I can’t believe that I actually stayed on this diet for a whole day and I’m not famished as I am on my other diets. I think the biggest thing I noticed already is I’m not craving any particular food, usually at the end of the day I need to have something sweet, it just completes my day and I seem to be doing okay without them right now. Well, looks like only 20 more days to go – agh, guess I don’t want to think that way, it sounds like a downer, and I need to keep thinking positive to make this work. So here goes, one day down and another one tomorrow, maybe that will be easier.
That’s it for me today, until tomorrow, Kate

I am on day 5 of the 21 pounds in 21 days. I’m not sure this is a good thing long term. I have felt sick everyday. I do feel better today, except for the cold I know have. I’m not sure if I’m drinking the right green drink (Vibrance?). It seems to me the book is not all that clear on what to do and you can’t reach anyone for questions. Thank God I’m going to a naturalpathic doctor on tues. I’ll see if I continue after that. Also I have felt a little faint since starting the diet.
