21 Pounds in 21 Days

Day 3 - Two more lost pounds!!

Woke up hungry but not starving, although I felt a little light headed. The scales say I lost another 2 pounds, so down 5 pounds, that’s probably why I’m lightheaded, peeing it all out. Yesterday I missed two of the drinks so that’s probably the real reason I’m light headed, not enough calories. So today I will get back on schedule with the drinks. I’m also experiencing some nauseasness after I drank my breakfast. It actually was a bit uncomfortable for a while and I had to lay down. Hope that doesn’t continue.

Well I just got back from my colon hydrotherapy treatment (recommended in the 21 Pounds in 21 Days book)– it was nothing at all. I was so surprised. The dentist office is 100 times worse. There is so much privacy, only about 60 seconds of inserting the little tube (it’s really small) and then you are completely covered up for the rest of the treatment. I actually felt hydrated when I was finished, there’s a bit of a cooling feeling inside the stomach area that does feel nice. The water that flows into you is a little stream for a few seconds and then there is a release – you actually don’t do anything the machine does it all. I was told that this treatment only does a little of your colon at a time and it can take up to 6 weeks to finish the entire large intestine. I decided it’s something I want to do since colon cancer is on both sides of my family. There is absolutely no pain at all, not even any cramps – so I guess you can say I’m a believer. The hydrotherapist told me that football players get this done, okay if they can do it anybody can. The other great thing about my treatment was that the hydrotherapist is actually on this same diet plan. She doesn’t look like she needs to lose any weight, but she said she wanted to do the detox. She has been on it for 14 days and she says she really is feeling the effects of feeling better and has decided to make this a lifestyle change. She said she tweaked it for her and actually eats watermelon and all because it’s mostly juice. She gave me some good advice about the liver cleanse. Take a lemon, clean the skin well, take out the seeds, put it in a blender with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 cup of water and a little of the stevia to sweeten it up. She indicated that the lymph drainage massage isn’t necessary if you make sure and use the brush to rub your dry skin before you shower. She said this works great. And she said if you don’t get a rebounder then bouncing up and down on your bed actually will do the trick, although I don’t believe this would be very good for the mattress. I’m not getting a rebounder, don’t like that jerky feeling that goes on with your brain when you’re bouncing around like that. One thing I mentioned to her was the one side effect from the diet that I’m having is being nauseas in the morning for about 1 hour. She said it’s from drinking the liquids after you have slept all night, the liquids move the toxins around and that’s what makes a person feel sick to their stomach. Well it does make since, so hopefully that gets better as the diet goes on. Didn’t walk today but will get back on schedule tomorrow. Was really hungry about 9:00 tonight, so I drank some fruit juice and that really did satisfy my hunger.  Another day down, Kate

Day 2 - Three pounds down!!!

As usual, I woke up starving. But my scales say I have lost 3 pounds in one day – that is totally unbelievable. I guess it’s all the peeing you do, those 3 pounds must be mostly water weight. I slept really good and didn’t wake up at all during the night, so no problems with sleeping on the first day of the diet. My energy level seems the same as always, I’m not noticing any changes with how I feel.

I didn’t walk today because we had major thunderstorms, so no exercise.

Made a soup out of a peeled sweet potato, green beans, spinach, 4 fresh basil leaves and a little ginger. It was really good, could be I was really hungry, but I actually liked it. Although it does look like pea soup by the time you blend all of it together and it’s almost like baby food consistency. But I was a happy camper just to be having something to eat and not drink. I haven’t been tempted by food yet, which I find really hard to believe. Also, I seem to be okay without the diet coke, although I do miss it most after dinner when I watch tv – dag!

Well that’s my day 2, Kate

Day 1 - The Beginning

I woke up early today, ready to start my 21 Pounds in 21 Days diet program. I have been trying to lose 30 pounds for a couple of years to no avail – extremely frustrated. I put on 10 pounds when I hit menopause and then the next 20 just seemed to come on so easily and quickly. Exercise seems to be getting harder and harder for me to get around to doing and finding the energy was almost impossible.

I happened to turn in to Larry King one evening and Dr. Roni DeLuz was telling him about her new detox diet plan. I only saw the last 10 minutes of the show, but I thought hey, this is something I haven’t thought about and really didn’t know anything about detoxing at all. So, the next day I ordered the book from Amazon and all I can say is that it’s a bit fuzzy about details. I bet I read it over and over (parts of it anyway) just trying to figure what the heck she was going on about. It is definitely not clear and precise, so I’ve decided to do my best to help others who would like to try the diet. I have to admit I have failed at all other diets, so I’m a bit apprehensive about this one, but my son says if I put it on the internet it will help me keep on track, so maybe just maybe I will make it this time. So here goes, hope there are others who want to take this journey with me.

I went to GNC and Healthway because neither of them had all the items needed for this diet. I looked at Ebay and as far as I could tell the Detox kit had more items than the book states we need, so why pay for all the extra items. I did take the book in so that the health stores could see what she was requesting for this diet to work. I tried ordering some of the items online and after a week of not receiving anything found out they were sold out of most of the items and it would be another two weeks before they even received their next shipment. I could see this is going to be a big fad diet and I wanted to get in on the basement floor and hopefully make it to the top with a lot less weight on my body when I finish detoxing.

Here are the items I ended up purchasing, the people at Healthway were fantastic and helped get everything together for me. The schedule is on page 174 of the book and it will tell you when to take each item, that part is pretty clear.

Aloe Vera – please do yourself a favor and get the pill form (liquid is to gag for)

- Take 1 at the end of the day

Berry Green powder (mixture of greens and fruit, any brand is fine)

- Drink 2 a day (3 if you don’t make your own juice at lunch time, I mix with apple juice)

Berry Splash powder (mixture of fruit and tea, any brand is fine)

- Drink 2 a day

Enzymes (these are pills)

- 1 pill, 2 times a day

Inner Cleanse (these are pills)

- 3 pills, 3 times a day

Protein Drink powder

- Not until the 22nd day (starts after detox is over)

Decaf tea

Apple Juice (I mix my Green Powder into the apple juice, the Healthway employee told me it’s a great way to drink it and he’s right, it goes down much easier this way)

I also found this item to be especially necessary for me:

Brita Water Pitcher – you can get one for about $13.00

You can purchase this at Target or online at Amazon.

Having the Brita Water Pitcher kept the water nice and cold which I found essential when mixing the powder drinks and I decided I wasn’t going to drink distilled water. I didn’t feel like spending money for those bottles and having to lug them from the grocery store, besides my filtered water is delicious and I believe it should be just fine. Guess I’ll find out soon anyway.

Day 1 has turned out to be a very good day. I started with the berry drink and I actually liked it, it’s sweet and I think it taste like kool aid, but it does need to be very cold water and be mixed thoroughly. I went for my 1 mile walk, which is the first time I have done any exercise in just forever; I can’t even remember the last time I walked. It actually felt good to be motivated to walk knowing it was part of my diet plan. Just 1 mile, it doesn’t take but 20 to 30 minutes at a slow walk and actually I came back feeling a bit rejuvenated – guess it has been way too long since my last pass at exercising, oh well.

When it came time to drink the green drink (yuck) I added some apple juice to it and it actually improved the flavor drastically. So will probably stick to that plan for the diet, even though it will add a few more calories at least I’m able to get the drink down now without any problems.

I put broccoli, green beans, carrots, a few basil leaves in my crock pot and let them cook all day on low. This is one of the recipes out of her book. I micro waved the cauliflower and it all came together pretty pleasantly.

Okay, this is just terrible – aloe vera, do not get the liquid it is totally disgusting. I think it must have the same consistency as castor oil, absolutely do not drink this horrible, disgusting stuff. Aloe Vera comes in tablets – get those! Tomorrow I am going back to the health store and purchase the tablets – yuck and double yuck, oh yea, it’s slimy too!!!

I actually am very surprised because I truly have not been hungry at all today, except an episode in the morning. When I first get up I’m always starving. So I drank a glass of water and had a cup of tea and it seemed to help a lot. So I may have to end up drinking lots of tea if I start getting hungry. I have never been a tea drinker so this will be interesting. I love diet cokes and I will try my best not to have any while detoxing – we’ll see if I can actually make that quest, not sure about this one.

I have scheduled a colon hydrotherapy 3 days from now and can tell you truthfully it just sounds terrible. I am not looking forward to it at all and I’m big time shy, so this will push my buttons to the limit that’s for sure. I will let you know how it goes after I get home that afternoon. What goes through my mind is just who would pick that occupation as a career choice????

I haven’t had any problems with headaches or anything today, so I would consider this a very good day and I can’t believe that I actually stayed on this diet for a whole day and I’m not famished as I am on my other diets. I think the biggest thing I noticed already is I’m not craving any particular food, usually at the end of the day I need to have something sweet, it just completes my day and I seem to be doing okay without them right now. Well, looks like only 20 more days to go – agh, guess I don’t want to think that way, it sounds like a downer, and I need to keep thinking positive to make this work. So here goes, one day down and another one tomorrow, maybe that will be easier.

That’s it for me today, until tomorrow, Kate
